Attack on America

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying that "Over the years the US has sent many of its great young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for is enough to bury those that did not return."

Powell's comment pretty much silenced the room.

"Wishing you the blessings of Freedom"
by: CW3 Jeffrey C. Ylitalo
Iraq - Dec. 2003

Greeting the new year with thanks from a soldier and a reason why you [Americans] are loveable.

I wish to send to you the blessings of " Freedom" to all who know me. I know it is difficult to imagine this last year having been spent in a peaceful world. I can tell you that it is possible to live in both kinds of worlds. There has been dramatic changes in such a short time here in Iraq.

I am still the same dude; it's funny because you would think that war would change who you are, but it doesn't the way you might think. It makes you more of who you are, which in my case is Okay. If you did not like yourself or your life before coming here to fight, it is a very bad place to be. " Jesus Christ", he did what he had to do. We who are Americans here in Iraq, away from our families and loved ones, are also doing what we have to do. It is not a time to be sad being so far away and fighting for something that is good. It is possible to survive this because we know that all you have faith in us and love us because you believe in us. We knew some who have perished here. I would not dishonor their memory now or ever. You must know that they would never do so either if it were the other way around. Truth of the matter is we often   think of returning to the sanctuary of our borders, " America the Beautiful", the place we all so long for, its freedom and safe harbors, and our homes.

I spent two weeks most recently among a lonesome looking bunch known as " Yazzeeties", a northern folk who worship the beautiful bird we call a Peacock. Yazzeeties do not eat lettuce or urinate standing. The former Iraqi regime, now dislodged from power, had taken their lands and pushed them into the mountains. Because we are here they have their lowlands once again. They are little unchanged and have a wild look in their eye that I identified with, having myself learned to exist with other men in an environment surrounding us that is often times spartan (a trait grown from a soldiering type of life). " Hummmmm" you might be saying right now. These people have honor, something that is quite often a subject torn apart and scrutinized in our society. We lived side by side a fortnight while we occupied their ancient lands and conducted out warrior skills. They demonstrated respect and tolerance knowing that sooner or later we could leave. When they sensed our departure the children from this tribe approached our perimeter and gathered to a number of about eighty small Yazzeeties and began chanting, not a demeaning tone, but one that was cheery and bright. The older men with their goats and sheep soon appeared and marched forward, previously unseen from among the wadi (Wadi are ravines cut from ancient water courses which their flocks wander into). The song from these eighty children was accompanied with a slight bouncing motion; this bounce was shared by all of them with a bend at the knees. All of us were somewhat mesmerized by this act, the bend and bounce, the chanting, and the one - step march of the elders whose cadence matched in tune to the children's harmony. They were saying " goodbye " and more. I wanted to hug all of the children and laugh and smile with them, something we have missed while here in Iraq. We convoyed through their village and the eldest of the tribe, a man with a drooping but stiff classic Turkish mustache, saluted us. This proud man, these proud people, who worship the Peacock, who do not eat lettuce or urinate standing, were home again, and they honored us.

I am proud to be a part of you and I celebrate this moment with you, the season of love and joy.

Jeff

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the Word Trade Center. It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists.  It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.  Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on September 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a spiritual moment for everybody there." Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the hair on my neck stood up. "It had a big meaning to it for all of us, he said. They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back." The ship's motto? "Never Forget"

JUDGE'S COMMENTS REGARDING MAN WITH A BOMB IN HIS SHOE

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid.

Judge Young: "Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you.

"On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General.

"On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutive with the other.

"That's 80 years.

"On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years consecutive to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you each of the eightcounts a fine of $250,000 for the aggregate fine of $2 million.

"The Court accepts the government's recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquetand $5,784 to American Airlines.

"The Court imposes upon you the $800 special assessment.

"The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

"This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.

"Let me explain this to you: We are not afraid of any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before.

"There is all too much war talk here. And I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, where we deal with individuals as individuals, and care for individuals as individuals, as human beings we reach out for justice, you are not an enemy combatant.

"You are a terrorist.

"You are not a soldier in any war.

"You are a terrorist.

"To give you that reference, to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature.

"Whether it is the officers of government who do it or your attorney who does it, or that happens to be your view, "You are a terrorist. we do not negotiate with terrorists.

"We do not sign documents with terrorists.

"We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice. So war talk is way out of line in this court.

"You are a big fellow. But you are not that big. You're no warrior. I know warriors. You are a terrorist.

"A species of criminal guilty of multiple attempted murders.

"In a very real sense Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and where the TV crews were and he said you're no big deal.

"You are no big deal".

"What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific.

"What was it that led you here to this courtroom today?

"I have listened respectfully to what you have to! say. And I asked you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty, and admit you are guilty of doing.

"And I have an answer for you.

"It may not satisfy you. But as I search this entire record it comes as close to understanding as I know. It seems to me you hate the one thing that is most precious: You hate our freedom.

"Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, and to believe or not believe as we individually choose.

"Here, in this society, the very winds carry freedom. They carry it everywhere from sea to shining sea.

"It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom. So that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely.

"It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, and will go on in their representation of you before other judges.

"We are about it. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties.

"Make no mistake though: It is yet true that we will bear any burden, pay any price, to preserve our freedoms.

"Look around this courtroom. Mark it well

"The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. Day after tomorrow it will be forgotten. But this, however, will long endure. Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America, the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice. Justice, not war. Individual justice is in fact being done.

"The very President of the United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged. And juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically -- to mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.

"See that flag Mr. Reid?

"That is the flag of the United States of America.

"That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands for freedom. It always will.

"Custody, Mr. Officer. Stand him down!"

How much of this Judge's comments did you hear on our TV sets? ZERO!

Global Totalitarianism And The Death Of Nature - Part I
By Diane Harvey
merak@sedona.net

bigdeer2.gif (59950 bytes)

The relentlessly purposeful relationship between the dark ruling minds of Earth and the agonizing death of the natural world is mystifying. What could possibly motivate the present owner-operators of this globe to allow planetary life-support systems to degrade into a state of toxic shock?

The death-throes of nature intensify, yet the fatally destructive human operations causing this continue unabated on all levels, as if this was not happening, and as if this unfortunate state of affairs had

nothing to do with human life.

We must ask ourselves if those powerful and secretive men at the helm
of this sinking ship...have therefore genuinely

lost their minds.

The Cheap Oil Boom Is Ending

Radical environmentalists and socialist-minded congressional Democrats determined to prevent oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and elsewhere in the U.S. may help throw the U.S economy into a tailspin, drive up oil prices, and make the nation even more dependent on foreign oil sources.
